The Australind service

We boarded the train at the
Perth station for our first journey on the train. It was the first time ever for
both Anthony and myself and mums second time since she was a child. Mum first
traveled on the Australind train about 65 years ago (I've been told things have
changed a little bit since then). Our train departed slightly late, and as a
consequence arrived at Bunbury station about 40 minutes late. More about that on
the next page!
The buffet service was great
for a passenger train. The food was bog-stock standard quick reheat food, with
good quality Mrs Macs pies, sausage rolls and a variety of other meals including
a chicken roll, which again was more than good enough for the expected food on
this type of service. One note, is that there are no warm Gluten Free items,
which is something TransWA could certainly address easily.
There were also a reasonable
selection of drinks available for purchase onboard the train, and you could
purchase real coffee (not just instant). The staff were quite helpful on the
journey, and the toilets were great.
There were also some sturdy
bike racks and luggage storage areas. I can certainly see this being a popular
service in Summer if it gains a reputation for on-time reliability.
